Erik ten Hag: I will be Cristiano Ronaldo's 'friend & teacher'

Erik ten Hag has committed to providing Cristiano Ronaldo with the encouragement and breathing room he requires to catch up to the rest of his Manchester United teammates.

Ronaldo requested to quit the club this summer and missed the most of preseason, but under Ten Hag, he has been a part of all six Premier League matchday teams, starting one game and substituting in five others.

The day before Sunday's 3-1 victory over Arsenal, Ten Hag declared, "I will be his friend and occasionally I will be his instructor. "That depends on the circumstances. As everyone is aware, he missed the preseason, which you cannot miss. It serves as a foundation, particularly for the way we play the game.

Compared to last year, we play a different style of game. Fitness is another factor that depends on the needs, cooperation, and specific placement in and out of position.

Before the game, Ten Hag acknowledged that Ronaldo, like every member of the team, would require time to get used to his style of play and that the striker was behind the others due to his abbreviated pre-season.

Ronaldo was connected to numerous teams throughout the world, but the majority of them—including Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and most recently, Napoli—came forth to officially disclaim their interest in the striker.

The season represents the remaining portion of Ronaldo's existing contract, but United has the option to extend it by a further year.
